The points in the self defense art of TaizanRyu Taiho Jitsu are also used in aiding the body in the healing process. Mastering the TaizanRyu Shiatsu system will aid in the students' understanding of the body functions and how much pressure to apply to heal or to immobilize an attacker.
These concepts have been refined over thousands of years. The Japanese have not exposed their teachings to the western world because of the lack of information that westerners had on this topic. The concepts of these applications are not common knowledge to the westerner. If you were to say to an individual, "Apply pressure to the Triple Heater Meridian so that you can be energized," the individual wouldn't understand that terminology. The TaizanRyu program will educate the student and give them the opportunity to share the knowledge to protect and heal with their friends and family. Can you picture yourself, after a bad day at work, body aching? You pull up into the driveway of your home. You ask your spouse for shiatsu on the shoulders, neck and head. Within 45 minutes you're sleeping, and wake up back into the spirit of things again. Wouldn't it be wonderful to relax as your spouse gives you a treatment that you would normally have to pay at least $70 to receive? This is what Soke Miller wants to bring to every household in the US.
Healing the body with touch has been a topic of discussion for thousands of years. The mastery of these techniques needs to be emphasized more in the art of self defense so that after a grueling practice, students can relax and have their energies balanced with a TaizanRyu Shiatsu treatment.
Soke Miller started his system of TaizanRyu Shiatsu based on the system of Koho Shiatsu, which he has been studying for years. The reason he decided to develop his own system was due to the amount of pain that the Koho System produced. Americans could not take that pain, even though it was rewarding after the fact. Soke Miller took those techniques of direct pressure with the thumb and devised a movement of energy in different directions, using the same meridian lines in Koho Shiatsu. He started his system in July of 1990. He tested the system from 1976 until 1990 and it proved worthy. The United States Air Force had Soke Miller do Shiatsu at the hospital for patients that they could not help with basic therapy. The dental office at Yokota Air Base Japan called Soke Miller in to give lessons and treat patients with TMJ. This is an ancient art that heals through energy and spirituality, a force of positive energy fighting off the negative energy within the distressed body.
